Small bead embroidery kits are the 150×150 mm format, up to 2,000 beads, and an easy rating on 254 of the 257 designs. This is the shortest way to try bead embroidery: the piece is finished in two or three evenings rather than a month.

Why it makes a good first kit

  • One format. Almost every piece here is 150×150 mm, so there is no size to agonise over.
  • Few colours. Usually 8–13, which all fit in a single row of lidded pots in front of you.
  • A visible result. 1,500–2,000 beads is 6–10 hours for a beginner, so a finished picture over a weekend.
  • The whole cycle. You go through all of it: unpacking, the first row, the background, the last beads, the finishing. After that you know whether you want a bigger format.

What comes after a small kit

The natural next step is a mid-size kit at 200×200 mm or an icon: the technique is the same and only the volume changes. How to pick a format is covered in how to choose your first bead embroidery kit.

Questions and answers

Do I need a hoop for a small kit?

No. Over an area of 150×150 mm the artist canvas holds its shape on its own, so you can stitch it in your hands.

What is in the kit?

Artist canvas with the full-colour pattern printed on it, Czech Preciosa beads sorted by colour, a needle and illustrated instructions.

How do I finish a 150×150 mm piece?

The simplest route is a frame with a standard aperture or a small set of stretcher bars. Both are covered in how to frame a bead embroidery picture.

Is it suitable for a child?

Yes, from about 8 or 9 with an adult nearby: the small format and short colour list keep it manageable.
