Description

“Homely sunflowers” is a handful of sunflowers in a plain grey vase.

What the picture shows

The vase stands on a dark surface: rounded, grey-blue, worked in pale beads with a shadow down one side. A bunch of sunflowers rises from it — several blooms with golden and orange petals and dark brown centres, with dark leaves and thin twigs carrying small red berries between them. One petal has fallen onto the table. The dark grey ground stays printed, and the yellow reads especially warm against it. The centres are beaded in small circles, which brings out the texture of the seeds. The berries on the twigs are small and dark red — the only cool accent in a warm bouquet. The shadow on the vase uses two greys, so the rounded form reads without an outline. The stems run at different angles instead of bunching together.
