Description
“Master of the Savannah” shows an elephant stepping out of the haze of a hot evening.
What the picture shows
The elephant walks straight towards you: ears spread, tusks pale, the body worked in grey and dark grey shades with soft transitions. Flat-crowned acacias stand on either side, and behind them the orange-yellow light of the setting sun spills out. Dry grass and long shadows fill the bottom, and a few birds marked with tiny stitches cross the top. The coffee canvas is left unstitched at the edges and works as the warm ground of the savannah. The elephant’s hide is worked in greys with soft transitions, and the light behind it in bands of orange. The kit holds 33 thread colours and 73 m of cotton.
