Description

“Early bird” is a blue bird on a branch — the whole piece in a single blue range.

What the picture shows

A bird with a rounded breast and a long tail sits on a white ground: the back and wing are worked in cobalt and deep blue beads, the breast lighter azure, the eye dark with a white highlight. A branch curves beneath it, and teardrop leaves and small berries in the same blues surround it, with a few twigs reaching upward. There are only eight colours, all of them running from pale azure to almost ink. The white ground is left unbeaded and stays printed, so the silhouette reads like an ink drawing. The berries use the darkest of the eight tones, so they act as full stops among the paler leaves.
