Description
“Radiance in the Darkness” shows sunflowers worked in gold and silver thread on black canvas.
What the picture shows
Three large heads are set on a diagonal: the petals and centres are laid in golden metallic thread, so the flowers glow against the dark ground. Leaves and stems are given in silver and pale lines with fine hatching, in places as an outline only. There are only six thread colours in the kit, yet most of the length is metallic thread. The black canvas stays as the background and the whole effect rests on it. The petals are laid in dense rows while the leaves stay as a graphic outline, so the embroidery reads almost like an engraving on black. The thread length is 92 m.

A vertical 180×300 mm design. Metallic thread likes short lengths and an unhurried pace, so this is not a quick piece despite the small palette. A frame is chosen separately. A dark frame suits the finished piece best, so that it does not compete with the sheen.
