Description
“Dancing among the waves” shows two koi carp circling through stylised waves.
What the picture shows
The fish face each other and close into a circle: the upper carp white with orange patches, the lower ruddy gold with a dark back, tails and fins loosed into long ribbons. Waves curl between them — crests of white, azure and turquoise beads with fine spray. The grey-green ground with its soft washes stays printed; nineteen colours give smooth transitions in both the scales and the water. The fins are beaded in long thin rows that break off here and there, so they look half-transparent in the water. The spray above the crests is made of single white beads. The wave circles close around the fish, so the composition reads as a medallion.
