Description

“On the waves of adventure” shows a small sailing boat riding the waves, with the outlines of a city rising behind it in a warm haze. The design is gathered into a soft circle.

What the picture shows

The boat stands in the centre: a dark hull with a golden stripe, two turquoise sails, a thin mast with a cross at the top. The waves below are stitched in blue, turquoise and white, with sharp crests of foam. Behind them rise the silhouettes of skyscrapers in pink, terracotta and purple tones, and above them peach-coloured clouds. The composition has no strict frame: the colours fade towards the edges, and beyond them the grey fabric is left as background. It is the grey of the fabric that gives this piece its muted, slightly misty mood. The sails are stitched in two shades of turquoise — lighter on the sunlit side and darker in shadow. The waves under the boat are laid in short arcs, and it is this small rhythm that creates the movement. The clouds above the city have soft edges that gradually dissolve into the grey fabric.
