Cross Stitch Kit "The abyss"
Description
“The abyss” shows a sailing ship in a storm surrounded by giant tentacles. The piece is tense, with a sharp contrast of dark and light.
What the picture shows
The ship stands in the centre, slightly heeled over: three masts, taut beige sails, a dark hull with a row of gun ports. Thick tentacles with rows of suckers rise from the water around it, stitched in terracotta, rust and dark brown; they frame the composition on every side. The waves below are green-grey with white crests. The sky is dark and stormy, with breaks in the clouds and a few birds. Count 18 fabric gives the small stitch needed for the rigging and the suckers — this is a high-difficulty design. The rigging is stitched in thin single lines that have to be worked stitch by stitch — the most painstaking part. The suckers on the tentacles run in rows and shrink towards the tips, and the foam on the wave crests is laid in short white strokes.
