Description

“World tree” shows a pale tree inside a circle with white doves flying around it. A decorative design with a densely stitched dark ground.

What the picture shows

The crown is set into a true circle: thin dark branches spread from the trunk, and the foliage is built from small strokes of lime, mint, olive and turquoise. Behind the circle the ground is dark green, almost nocturnal, scattered with stylised leaves, small flowers and dots in blue, turquoise, cherry and ochre. Three white doves fly above and below. The piece is worked in solid cross stitch, so the whole surface is covered; the beads add separate points of light. The crown is lighter than the ground, and that contrast is what holds the circle at the centre.
