Description

“wolf” — a wolf muzzle split in half: one side pale, almost white, the other dark grey.

What the picture shows

The portrait is close up and frontal. The left half is stitched in silvery white and cold blue, the right in graphite and dark brown, and the whole design rests on that break. The fur is built from short strokes in many shades, from near black to pearl, so both the direction of the hair and the volume are visible. The eyes are green and yellow with black pupils, the nose and lips dark. Metallic thread adds a cold shine to the tips of the fur and beads set single bright points. Twenty-one thread colours give smooth transitions, and the ground around the head stays black canvas with no stitching. The muzzle is nowhere outlined with a separate line: the silhouette is held by tonal difference alone, so the fur seems to dissolve into the dark at the edges. Lower down the strands turn into sharp pointed feathers.
