Description

“With tender and love” is a Valentine still life: glass jars spelling LOVE, hearts on sticks and an armful of flowers.

What the picture shows

Four clear jars stand in the bottom row, each bearing a red letter that together spell the word. Branches rise from the jars and pitchers: lilac lavender, pink hydrangea heads, cherry blossom and willow catkins. Hearts sway between them on sticks — red, checked, lettered Be Mine and xoxo. The colours are warm: raspberry, powder pink and lavender against the coffee-coloured cloth. Cross stitch runs solidly, and the darker canvas softens the light shades. The glass of the jars is rendered in pale blue-grey stitches with white highlights along the edges.
