Description

“Winter motanka doll” shows a ritual folk doll in winter dress with a white goat beside her.

What the picture shows

The figure stands in the centre: instead of a face there is a pale cross of wound threads, on her head a wreath of flowers and ribbons, and over it a red and orange costume covered in dense geometric ornament, with strings of beads. The skirt fans out in wide bands, and a white goat with curved horns stands at her feet. A snowbound village under a dark sky lies behind, and white papercut-like patterns are scattered over the dark blue canvas on both sides. Some of the jewellery is picked out in PRECIOSA beads. The ornament on the costume is worked in small geometric blocks and the white pattern at the edges in even lines. The thread length is 100 m.
