Description

“Wind melody” — blue birds among stylised flowers — the whole piece in one colour range and nothing else.

What the picture shows

The composition is symmetrical: five birds of different sizes sit and fly among straight stems, round blooms and small stars. The birds are given as silhouettes, with pale dots scattered here and there on the wings and breasts. The flowers are schematic — a rosette daisy, a bell-shaped tulip, pods and berries on thin stalks. The whole range is six colours, from almost black indigo to pale sky, and the gradation runs from the centre outwards. The drawing recalls old painted ceramics. The fabric between the motifs is left plain, so the piece looks light. The birds face in different directions, so the symmetry never looks mechanical. The largest bird sits at the upper left and sets the scale for the whole group.
