Description

“White Tiger” — a white tiger seen head-on, built from lace-like small patterns, with bright blue eyes.

What the picture shows

The muzzle fills almost the whole field. It is stitched in white, grey and silver, but never as a solid patch: inside the contours lies a fine geometric and floral pattern, closer to carving or lace. A dense fringe of short rays runs around the edge of the head, holding the silhouette and separating it from the ground. The eyes are turquoise blue, the only bright colour in the piece; the nose and stripes are dark grey. Five thread colours plus metallic thread give the cold sheen. The ground is left unstitched: the black canvas around the head works as empty space and sets off the pale silhouette. The ears are small with a pinkish inner side, and on the forehead the pattern gathers into a symmetrical rosette. The drawing is built on repeated small elements, so the counting needs care despite there being only five thread colours.
