Description

“White Legends” is a white elephant in profile among large peonies, in a cool pearly palette.

What the picture shows

The elephant's head fills the right half: a raised, curling trunk, a large fan of an ear with fine veining, a half-closed eye, a short tusk. The skin is worked in lilac, grey and pale blue shades with faint warm reflections. Lush peonies open on the left and below — white and cream with pink hearts and many layers of petals — with glaucous leaves between them. The composition blurs at the edges and passes into plain cloth with small splashes. Forty-seven shades over 185 metres of floss give very soft transitions. The peony petals overlap the elephant’s ear in places, and the boundary between them is not obvious at once.
