Description

“Whisper of the wind” shows a round window with open shutters, and the sea and a lighthouse beyond it. The view is as if from inside a house straight onto the water.

What the picture shows

The window frame is wooden, stitched in warm brown and ochre, with clearly drawn boards and battens; uneven grey stonework runs around it. In the opening are blue-turquoise water with white crests, a narrow band of sandy shore and a red-and-white striped lighthouse on the right. The sky is light and almost unstitched. A starfish, a few shells and a glass bottle with a sprig lie on the sill. At the bottom the paint seems to run down in thin drips — a device that leaves part of the white fabric open. Seams and unevenness show on the stone around the window, and the shutter boards have knots and cracks. The starfish is densely stitched, with small specks on its arms, and a green sprig and the shadow of the glass show inside the bottle on the sill.
