Cross Stitch Kit "Violet house"
Description
“Violet house” is a blue plank cottage with enormous pansies rising around it. The scale is deliberately turned upside down.
What the picture shows
The cottage stands at the centre: blue and pale blue boards, double doors with a window, a tiled roof in a warm burgundy tone, a bird weathervane on the ridge. Three large pansies open on either side, taller than the roof — lilac and raspberry with yellow centres and dark veining. Grass and small flowers are worked in short green stitches below. The background is light and almost colourless. The level is simple and the cross stitch is laid solidly. The pansies are larger than the cottage door, and that contrast of scale is the main device of the design. The roof is the darkest patch in the piece, and it is what holds the centre of the composition.
