Cross Stitch Kit "The Rooster in the Yard"
Description
“The Rooster in the Yard” shows a cockerel among roses with his tail spread. The piece recalls an old tapestry: muted colours and a dense texture.
What the picture shows
The bird takes the centre and the top: a golden-ginger neck and breast, dark tail feathers with a green and purple sheen, a bright red comb and wattles, a yellow eye. The plumage is stitched in short rows of different shades, so every tier is visible. Open roses — peach, cream and pink — and several buds surround him; the leaves are dark, almost grey-green. The background is densely stitched in muted greens and ochre, and the coffee fabric does not show through. The 38 thread colours are needed precisely for the sheen in the tail. The cockerel’s tail is built from long curved feathers, each outlined in a dark line and filled with its own shade. The roses have tightly packed petals with shadow in the depth, and the background behind is worked in small stitches of mixed colours, like an old carpet.
