“The mad tea party” gathers the recognisable small things from the Alice story into one still life.

What the picture shows

A blue and white cup marked with card suits stands on a stack of books in blue and green bindings, steam rising from it. A wooden signpost leans alongside, playing cards lie scattered about, and there is a pocket watch on a chain and two little bottles with paper labels. Red spotted mushrooms and small berries fill the bottom. The metal parts of the watch and the little key are picked out in golden metallic thread. The cards and labels are worked in crisp straight lines, while the steam over the cup is given in sparse pale stitches. The kit holds 40 thread colours and 61 m of cotton.
