Description

“The Embodiment of Grace” shows a ballerina in a lilac tutu beneath an ornate arch, like a figure from an old music box.

What the picture shows

The dancer stands on pointe with her arms raised; the many-layered skirt is worked in pale lilac and pink shades with almost transparent edges. A tall arch of scrolls, ribbons and clusters of roses frames her, and a rounded ornamented pedestal sits below. The gilded details and highlights are picked out in silver metallic thread and PRECIOSA beads. The white count 18 canvas inside the arch stays as a light background. The skirt is worked in pale shades with a gradual blend, and the scrolls of the arch in small precise stitches. The kit holds 27 thread colours and 98 m of cotton.
