Description

“Special date” is a grey Venetian street in the rain with two people under a red umbrella — the only patch of colour in a graphic design.

What the picture shows

The design imitates a pencil sketch: thin grey strokes build a bell tower with a sharp spire, a cathedral dome, the arcade of an embankment, a moored gondola and wet cobbles with reflections. A many-armed street lamp stands on the right, and the lamps and the umbrella are a warm red. The couple stands in the middle of the square, pressed close together, their reflection stretching into a puddle. The stitching is dense, so the canvas is covered, and the airiness comes from light shades of grey. There are only a few red patches in the whole piece, and all of them sit in the right half near the lamp.
