Description

“Soft Paws” is a fluffy blue-grey cat with amber eyes looking out from among coral flowers.

What the picture shows

The cat sits facing forward with its paws tucked in: thick fur worked in blue, mauve and ash grey with pink reflections, tufted ears, round yellow eyes. Large flowers open behind and below it — coral, peach, white — with burgundy and green leaves, as if the cat were sitting in a bush. The drawing is watercolour in feel: soft edges, colours running into one another, small splashes flying around. The work is solid and the canvas is fully covered. The eyes and nose are the only sharp details; the rest of the face is built from soft blends without hard outlines. The flowers behind the cat are lighter than those in front, and that creates the depth.
