Description

“Silence in the forest” shows a wooden cabin on the shore of a forest lake with a boat by the water. It is a piece about an empty place where only the water can be heard.

What the picture shows

The cabin stands in the centre, slightly above the middle: warm brown logs, a gabled roof, windows lit from inside, a small porch. Tall spruces and pines crowd around it, stitched in several shades of green — from almost black to light lime. Above, the sky is taken in peach and grey strokes, with light breaking through the trees. Below is the lake: turquoise water with long reflections, a brown boat in the foreground and grass along the banks. The 53 thread colours go mostly into the greenery and the water; the fabric is stitched completely. The needles on the spruces are worked in short stitches pointing in different directions, so the trees do not look flat. The reflection in the water is elongated and slightly blurred, the boat shows its planks and rowlocks, and a thin layer of moss lies on the cabin roof.
