Description

“Silence has color” shows a white lighthouse on a rocky headland with a poppy field in front of it. The sunset is broken into broad bands of colour.

What the picture shows

The lighthouse stands right of centre: a tall white tower with a red lantern room on top and a small house at its base. Dark rocks lie beneath it, with a wave breaking into white foam. A field of red and orange poppies with green stems, laid in separate strokes, spreads to the left and below. The sea is deep blue, with clear bands of current. The sky is taken in broad strokes — turquoise, grey, peach and yellow near the horizon. The fabric is stitched completely, with no open areas; there are 45 thread colours. Horizontal courses of masonry and narrow windows show on the lighthouse tower, and a small house with a dark roof stands at its base. The poppies in the foreground are larger and more detailed, then shrink into separate specks, so the field looks deeper than it is.
