Description

“Shining lotus” — a lotus painted as if wet-on-wet: pink, lilac and yellow flowing into one another.

What the picture shows

The flower is seen from the front and fills almost the whole square. The upper petals are pale, pink-cream, deepening to crimson at the edges; the lower ones run into blue and violet and disappear into a darker shadow. The heart is warm yellow-orange with fine stamens, and PRECIOSA #10 beads are scattered around it — forty beads that give real sparkle. Violet drips run down from the petals and small pink dots fly above. There are no outlines at all: the shape is held by colour alone. Twenty thread colours across 60 m. The fabric around is left plain. The petals overlap in several layers, which gives the flower its depth. The drips below are shorter than the petals themselves and draw no attention away.
