Description

“Sea Horse” is a seahorse in a round ornament of weeds and bubbles, stitched in gold on dark blue canvas.

What the picture shows

The seahorse stands at the centre with its typical curved neck and coiled tail; the body is worked in cross bands of gold, ochre and a greenish shade, with a wavy fin along the back. A circle of two arcs closes around it — one of scrolls and leaves, the other of small ring-shaped bubbles. Below, the ornament runs into a ribbon that falls downward. The dark blue cloth is left unstitched and reads as depth; metallic thread emphasises the outer contour. The segments of the seahorse's body alternate between lighter and darker tones, giving the effect of armour. The ribbon at the bottom closes the circle and balances the curve of the tail.
