Description

“Scarlet poppies” shows seven red poppies on slender stems gathered into a square bouquet.

What the picture shows

The flowers are open to different degrees: two large ones show a yellow-green centre ringed with stamens, while the others are still half closed and show the wavy edges of their petals. The petals run from bright red to deep burgundy and are lit with orange from below. The stems are long, dark green and slightly curved; one bud hangs down on a bent stalk. Dense, sharply toothed leaves fill the lower edge. Watercolour patches of lilac and blue sit behind the flowers, and the rest of the ground stays as unstitched white canvas.
