Description

“Sailboat” — a sailing ship under full sail on black water, in a cold blue and turquoise palette.

What the picture shows

The ship is shown side on, with three masts and open sails; the canvas of the sails is stitched in pale blue and greyish white with fine shading, so they look full of wind. The hull is warm ochre and gold with a dark line along the side, and a long pennant streams from the stern. The water beneath is not a solid patch but a run of turquoise curls and waves spreading downward — the most graphic part of the design. Metallic thread adds shine on the waves and the sails. The ground is not stitched, and the black canvas around the ship reads as a night sea without a horizon. The waves under the hull never close into a solid mass — dark gaps are deliberately left between the curls. Only ten thread colours across 23 m of thread: one of the shortest kits in the series.
