Description

“Protector of the Sun” shows a stylised cat covered with ornament, seated against a sun disc. The whole design is kept in a single coffee-and-gold range.

What the picture shows

The cat’s silhouette is built from wavy lines and spirals that run along the body, the paws and the long tail curling at its base. The head is raised, the ears are pointed, and a round medallion sits on the chest. Sun rays radiate behind it, and a carved crown of fine points closes the circle. There are only 15 thread colours, but all of them are close: sand, ochre, warm brown, coffee. The golden outlines are worked in metallic thread, and separate accents are picked out with PRECIOSA beads — they are what give the piece depth on the plain coffee fabric. The ornament inside the silhouette never repeats: concentric circles on the chest, herringbone notches on the legs, a wide spiral on the tail. The sun rays vary in length and thickness, and the toothed crown above is built from small identical elements.
