Description

“Premonition” shows a black cat sitting in a scatter of tarot cards. Its gaze is calm and slightly mocking.

What the picture shows

The cat fills the centre of the design: the fur is stitched in black, deep blue and graphite with occasional light strokes, the whiskers and brows marked in white, the eyes yellow-green and each with its own expression. Cards are scattered behind and around — ochre rectangles with a dark border, each showing a small image: a moon, a star, a hand. At the bottom they lie fanned one over another. The background is dark greenish grey, stitched in uneven strokes, so it looks like an old wall. Of the 29 thread colours, many are needed for the sheen of the black fur. The images on the cards are small but legible: a moon with a face on one, a star with rays on another, an open palm with lines on a third. The cat’s fur follows the shape of the body, with lighter strands on the ear tips and the chest.
