Description

“Poppy field” is a summer landscape where red poppies grow straight out of dry golden grass.

What the picture shows

The foreground is filled with tall grass and seed heads bleached to ochre; among them the poppies glow in large patches, from bright red to a darker shade in the shade. Further back the field rises to a yellow band of ripe corn where the poppies appear only as small dots. Dense green trees and bushes stand along the sides and the horizon, and one trunk comes forward on the left. A patch of blue sky with white clouds opens in the upper right. The canvas is stitched throughout.
