Cross Stitch Kit "Poppies at sunset"
Description
“Poppies at sunset” shows a red poppy field running down to an old farm, with hills and mountains beyond. The light is low and evening-like.
What the picture shows
The foreground is densely planted with poppies: large open flowers and green seed heads are worked in separate stitches, and almost every petal has its own shade of red. Further on the field turns into a solid red band, behind which stand two buildings with rusty roofs and dark trees. The hills recede in several planes, from olive to smoky blue, and the sky is taken in pink, peach and grey. The 42 thread colours are needed for the gradations in the sky and the distance — the fabric is stitched completely, with no bare areas. The poppies in the foreground are worked in the most detail: black centres, crumpled petal edges, hairy stems. Further back the detail deliberately drops away, and within a dozen metres the flowers turn into a solid red mass — that transition is what creates the depth.
