Description

“Pink Aurora” is an armful of pink magnolias and cosmos with butterflies, gathered into a vertical composition.

What the picture shows

The flowers run from top to bottom in a loose stream: large magnolias with broad petals above, then cosmos with narrow petals and yellow centres, small lilac clusters and a few buds. The colours stay within one family — from pale pink and powder to raspberry and mauve — with muted grey-olive foliage. Two pale butterflies with patterned wings fly at the right and top, and a large spiral shell lies below. The background is white with faint pink washes. Forty-one shades give smooth transitions within a single colour. The shell below is the only warm beige detail, and it balances the cool lilac at the top of the composition. The stems and leaves are barely visible; they merely link the flowers together.
