“On top of the world” — mountains, forest and a few cabins in a circle under a starry sky.

What the picture shows

The composition is set into a circle. A grey-blue peak with veins of snow rises in the centre, dark firs and rocks close in on either side, and a narrow waterfall runs down and disappears into the shadow. Two small cabins with lit windows stand by the water — the only warm yellow patches in a cold palette. Above, the sky is dense blue, sown with small stars, with a pale moon over the ridge. Forty-seven thread colours across 111 m: exactly what is needed to keep the mountains from merging into one patch. The fabric outside the circle is left plain. The waterfall is the brightest vertical in the piece and leads the eye from the peak downwards.
