Description

“Night glow” — the northern lights above a black forest, closed in a circle, with beads and bugles in the glow.

What the picture shows

The upper half of the circle is filled with a swirling vortex of light: bands of turquoise, emerald, fuchsia and orange curling towards the centre. Beneath them the forest stands as a black band — sharp fir silhouettes with no detail inside; lower still lies a greyish sheet of water with a reflection. A full moon glows on the right, inside the aurora. Thirty thread colours carry the smooth gradients in the sky. Two colours of seed beads, 160 bugle beads and five glass stones are stitched on top, so the glow really glitters in the light. The circle itself is stitched densely, including the black ground inside it, while the white canvas beyond stays plain. The forest and the water take only the lower third; everything else is given to the sky.
