Description

“Mysteries of the Night” shows pale anemones on black fabric. The design rests on one device: the white glows because everything around it is dark.

What the picture shows

Five large blooms are placed diagonally from the bottom upwards. The petals are stitched in white, cream and cool lilac, and the centres are deep purple with small stamens. The stems and leaves are taken in grey-green and mint, with tiny pink specks — small buds — scattered between them. The background is not stitched: the black fabric is left as it is, and that is part of the design. There are only 14 thread colours, so the kit needs no complex shading, but it does ask for accuracy — every stitch shows on dark fabric. Each flower is turned at its own angle: one faces the viewer, another is seen from the side, a third almost in profile. The petals carry a thin lilac outline that separates them from the black fabric, while inside the shading runs from white to grey.
