Description

“Morning in Paris” shows the Eiffel Tower behind branches of magnolia in full bloom. A cool blue sky and pink blossom.

What the picture shows

The tower stands on the right and rises past the top edge: latticed legs, an arch below, a spire above, all worked in a warm grey-beige with small gaps of light. Dark branches with large pink-and-white magnolia blossoms run across the format from the left and top, each petal given its own shadow. The sky is blue with white drifts, and a band of greenery and rooftops shows below. The stitching is solid, the canvas covered, and thirty-eight shades create the depth. The magnolia petals are lighter than the sky, so the branches read clearly even where they cross the tower. The rooftops below are worked in a few stitches and almost dissolve into the blue haze.
