Description

“Moon secrets” is a full moon set into a dense carpet of flowers and leaves. An above-average design with a great many shades.

What the picture shows

The moon's disc takes the centre and is drawn down to the craters: silvery grey patches, a bright rim, fine shadows. Around it a dark blue and emerald ground is filled edge to edge with large leaves, stems and open dog-rose and cosmos flowers in pink, lilac and cream. Small stars flicker between them. The composition is symmetrical and decorative: the moon reads as an ornamental centre rather than as a night sky. The canvas is fully covered in cross stitch, and beads add points of light. The flowers overlap the moon's disc in places, so the circle does not read as a separate shape.
