Description

“Melody of provence” is a stitched poster in the manner of an old shop sign: a basket of lavender, the words LAVANDE PROVENCE and a plank wall behind.

What the picture shows

The first word runs across the top in large, worn blue letters, the second curves along the bottom. Between them stands a terracotta wicker basket with a round label, lavender bursting out of it: hundreds of small florets from pale lilac to almost ink-dark on grey-green stems. A slate tag is tucked into the basket on the left, and a paper label hangs on a cord to the right. Two butterflies rest at the sides — one blue, one russet — and a ladybird crawls below. The background imitates faded planks with cracks and runs of paint. Forty-one shades give the effect of old wood and sun-bleached colour.
