Description

“Magic pages” shows a pointed hat lying on a stack of old books, with autumn leaves swirling around. The background is black fabric, so the scene reads as a night one.

What the picture shows

The hat is in the centre: grey-blue, with a wide brim, a dark band and a round buckle. Beneath it is a stack of seven or eight books of different thickness, their spines ochre, beige and grey, the pages worked in thin light lines. Small pumpkins, acorns and twigs are scattered below, and a pale moon shines at the top right. Orange and yellow leaves fall across the whole height, with tiny white specks between them. The black fabric is not stitched: it stays as the background, and the colours look richer on it. The books differ from one another: one shows tooling on the spine, another a bookmark, a third lies open face down. The leaves fall at different angles, and each is stitched in two or three shades, so they do not merge into one mass.
