Description

“Magic house” — a fairy-tale house with a sharp orange roof among pink spring blossom.

What the picture shows

The house is round, almost a tower: stone walls in small courses, several windows at different heights, a blue canopy over the door and a tall conical roof the colour of terracotta, covered in rows of tiles. Stone steps overgrown with moss and greenery lead down from the door. Trees in pink and lilac blossom stand around, their crowns drawn in small patches, their branches thin and curved. Everything behind dissolves into a pale pink haze. Twenty thread colours across 142 m: the range is narrow, almost monochrome, so accurate half-tones are what matter. The fabric at the corners is left plain. The tiles are laid in slightly offset rows, and that is what gives the roof its volume. The windows are small and unequal, so the house looks as if it grew over many years.
