Description

“Lotus” — a pink lotus at the centre of a dark ornament of leaves and sharp spikes.

What the picture shows

The flower is fully open and seen from the front: petals move from pale pink at the base to deep crimson at the tips, with a soft yellow heart. Dark green leaves with carved edges spread symmetrically around it, and behind them sit sharp ornamental rays and small scrolls outlined in metallic thread. The composition is stretched horizontally and recalls a crest or a pendant. Twelve thread colours, most of them greens and pinks. The ground around the ornament stays open black canvas, so the drawing seems to hang in the dark. The symmetry is exact: everything on the left of the axis repeats on the right, which noticeably simplifies the counting. Twelve thread colours across 38 m of thread — a small amount of stitching for a striking result. Red and green never blend here: each zone keeps its own clean colour.
