Description

“Lighthouse light” shows a striped lighthouse on a rocky headland and a town with tiled roofs along the shore. A panorama 390 mm wide.

What the picture shows

The design is built like a light sketch: thin contour lines and very few filled areas. The lighthouse stands right of centre — a white tower with red bands, a lantern room and a gallery, with a heap of large boulders beneath it. The shore runs off on both sides with red-roofed houses, a bell tower and a small jetty. A few vessels show out at sea on the left, and gulls fly above the water. The sky is marked by a handful of horizontal strokes. Twenty-six colours, and most of the surface stays light and airy. The bands on the lighthouse tower narrow towards the top, and they are what make it the focus of the panorama.
