Description

“Lemon mood” shows a branch with three lemons and white blossom, arranged as a neat vertical bunch. The background is coffee fabric, which sets the warm tone of the whole piece.

What the picture shows

The lemons sit one above another in the centre: the peel is stitched in several shades of yellow with small specks, and shadows show at the sides. Above and to the right, white flowers with yellow centres have opened, with small buds beside them. The leaves are dark green and grey-green, with clear veins. Thin outline lines worked in a single colour run around the edges of the composition — they mark the space without filling it. The coffee fabric is not stitched, so it acts as background and softens the contrast between the yellow and the green. The peel of the lemons is conveyed by small specks of a darker shade, which makes it look porous. The flowers have five petals each with a thin outline, and the centres are worked as yellow knots. The outline lines along the edges are left unfilled — a deliberate part of the drawing.
