Description

“Leaflet” is a maple leaf with a courtship scene hidden inside it.

What the picture shows

The leaf is worked in terracotta and rust tones, from almost cream to a deep iron red. Inside the lighter part two dark silhouettes stand: a boy in a hat offering a heart to a girl in a wide-skirted dress and a small hat. Grass is marked under their feet. The veins of the leaf are drawn as thin lines, and the lower third is filled with dense rust colour. The coffee-coloured canvas around stays unstitched, so the leaf looks as if it were lying on warm paper.
