Description

“Lantern” is a wrought-iron street lamp on a wall bracket, wound about with branches of red berries. An elongated vertical design.

What the picture shows

The lamp fills almost the whole height: a six-sided body with glass panels, a pointed roof with a finial and a scrolled ornament below. The metal is worked in turquoise, blue and steel shades, the glass lighter with white highlights. The bracket comes in from the left edge and curls into a spiral. Thin branches with small red berries and yellow and green leaves wind around the lamp, a few of them hanging down. The background is light, with pale blue and pink washes that keep the composition airy. The whole area is covered in cross stitch. The berries are the only warm patch in the cool turquoise-blue range, and they are what enliven the metal.
