Description

“Japan-3” shows a red flowering tree beside a temple, with gold shrubs below. The warmest in colour of the miniatures.

What the picture shows

A tree with a dense crown grows on the left, worked in scattered coral and terracotta stitches on a dark crooked trunk. On the right stands a building with two curved roofs and a gallery, stitched in saturated red. A band of gold and ochre shrubs stretches below, with thin branches showing among them. A few wavy lines mark the water in front. Eight colours including metallic thread; the rest of the area is unstitched black cloth, against which the warm shades look especially bright. The tree’s crown is worked in scattered single stitches, so the foliage looks light and moving. The roof is the darkest of the red areas and holds the right half of the composition.
