Cross Stitch Kit "Japan-1"
Description
“Japan-1” shows a red temple with a tiered roof above the water, with gold shrubs and a tree beside it. The first of four Japanese miniatures.
What the picture shows
On the right stands a building with two curved roofs, a gallery and posts, worked in saturated red with darker shading at the edges. A red bridge on piles runs from it to the left. A tree with a spreading crown and a few shrubs grow on the left, stitched in gold and ochre thread with small strokes. A few wavy lines mark the water below. There are only four colours, and the rest of the area is unstitched black canvas, which serves both as night and as the emptiness of a Japanese print. The temple roofs are two-tiered with the characteristic upturned edges, and they are what give the scene its Eastern character.
