“Heron at sunset” is a round evening landscape set into black canvas.

What the picture shows

The circle is filled with the fire of the sunset: orange and red above, yellow towards the centre, with a pale disc of sun hanging in the middle. Bare trees with thin branches stand black against the light; another group of trunks appears on the right and water glints below. Two grey herons stand in the foreground — one with its neck stretched out, the other bent down. Small coloured dots, like falling leaves, fly out beyond the circle. The black canvas around it is left unstitched.
