Description

“Hen in the Yard” shows a ginger hen with three chicks among roses.

What the picture shows

The hen stands in profile, her feathers worked in warm ginger, ochre and brown shades with crisp transitions, her comb and wattles bright red. Three yellow chicks potter about at her feet, one peeping out from under a wing. Orange roses, green and dark leaves open around them, and the background is deep, almost black, with glints of foliage. The coffee canvas supports the warm palette of the whole piece. The hen’s feathers gain volume from short rows in different shades, while the dark background is filled solidly and takes the most time. The thread length is 119 m.
